You know the little packets of taco seasoning you buy at the store? They’re wonderful (and often full of MSG) and oh so convenient, I know. I used to use them all. the. time! We love taco soup at our house as well as homemade tacos. Both of which are on the regular rotating menu around here. We go through quite a bit of taco seasoning.
About a year ago we went on a health kick (which we’re still on… when we feel like it ;)) and I went on a quest to find an alternative to the little packets o’ convenience. I didn’t have to look any further than The Diet Rebel’s Cookbook. If I’m being honest, my husband and I fully expected to have to get used to a bland version of taco seasoning.
SURPRISE!! We were so wrong. This recipe is WAY better than the packets, no joke!
Homemade Taco Seasoning
- 2/3 c. dried onion granules or onion powder
- 1 1/4 c. chili powder
- 1 3/4 T. garlic powder
- 2/3 c. ground cumin
- 3 1/2 T. paprika
- 3 1/2 T. dried oregano
- 2 T. Sucanat or granulated maple sugar (you could also use brown sugar)
Enjoy! It really is awesome!!
